Daphne had her Kids!

Daphne had her kids!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

She had a buckling and a doeling, and they are strong and healthy. Daphne is a good momma, too. She’s very attentive, and has kept her babies warm these past freezing nights.

Look at those long ears, and the Roman nose. These are two characteristics of Nubians. Our friend Jeff Mahaffey (my dairy goat guru) says he always bred for those two characteristics. He pronounced both of these kids to be just perfect! Continue Reading →

New Cartons for our Fresh Eggs!

We hope you like our new egg cartons. They are made of recycled materials and are 100% biodegradable. That’s important to us. Start your garden seedlings in them and then plant them directly in the ground. Tear them up into small pieces and add them to your compost pile. Start a worm farm and use them for worm bedding. (REALLY! You can do that!) If that’s not your cup of tea, then bring them back to us and we’ll use them again.

Here is a picture of our new carton. We love the look!

Fresh Lamb is Here!

We’re fully restocked with all lamb cuts now…chops and racks, legs and shanks, tender ground for burgers and casseroles, and meaty soup bones. For those of our customers who enjoy more adventurous dishes, we have cleaned heads and offal, too…and they’re just $1 a pound.

Spring Lambs on Fox Trot Farm!

Spring is a busy time on Fox Trot Farm, and this spring seems to have arrived 20 or so days early. We have our very first set of pure white twin lambs! Hobart is taking extra special care of them.

HobartLambsFeedTrough

The lambs like to clean up what’s left in the trough after the sheep finish and move on. They really can’t digest anything but Mom’s milk, but they like to do what the big sheep do. Hobart stayed behind with them, then decided when it was time to move up the hill with the flock, and the babies followed him. Continue Reading →

Winter Has Arrived!

We’re tough stock here on Fox Trot Farm, and we’ll be open for business this afternoon in spite of the cold. We are sold out of eggs, though. Folks stocked up on them for the coming storm-that-wasn’t. Come by if you need processed lamb, honey or soap. We’re open from 1:00-5:00 most Sunday afternoons. You can call/text me at 803-804-3541 if you have any questions. 5066 Rowell RD, Lancaster, SC. (We’re 20 minutes from Waxhaw, Monroe, and Lancaster!)

Here are some wintry scenes from the farm. After all that miserable cold rain, it’s so nice to see the sun shining and the sky blue!

Where are the bunnies???? (They are REALLY warm in their straw!)

gnome2 icytree

All the trees are covered with sparkly ice, but just enough to be beautiful and not dangerous.

Oscar thinks we got this cute little rocking chair just for him.

Don’t you love all the colors in this photo? It’s definitely winter on Fox Trot Farm.

snowypansies

Mr. Peacock will find these pansies and have a flower salad today.

snowtable

We’ve had a lot more snow in past winters, and may have more to come. Even this much is pretty. I sure am glad it’s not ice.

fairy-lights

I took this picture early this morning before the sun came full up to melt the tiny crystalline drops of frozen rain that decorated this tree like fairy lights. I sure wish I could have truly captured the magic.

We hope you enjoy this beautiful day. If the roads are safe, come see us to get your honey, processed lamb, and hand made soap! (No farm tours today. Farmer Bob is squirrel hunting!)

Such a Happy Little Boy on our Farm Tour!

***Our farm market will be open on Sunday, November 27th!***

There’s a young woman I’ve known since she was a cute little girl tearing up home plate in Dixie Girls Softball. She and her sisters were (and still are) precious. Now that we’re years and years away from those soft ball games, I seldom see any of them. One has even moved across the world!

Years ago, they lost their mother to poor hospital care, and just this past year they lost their father to a reckless driver automobile accident. My heart goes out to the girls, and I feel so sorry for their parents, too. (I used to sit with them in the stands while we cheered on all the girls.) I’ve remained connected with one of the sisters through Facebook and, when I found out her sister-from-across-the-world was coming home with her little three-year-old boy,  I invited them to come to the farm. (It’s so nice to stay connected with people from across the years, right?) Continue Reading →

New Tour Hours on Sundays

declanfeeding

Sundays are great family days, and we are so happy that so many families are coming for farm tours on Sundays. Since it’s just Farmer Bob and me, and it’s also our farm market day, we take turns conducting the tours and manning the store.

farm-market

Since our tours last about an hour to an hour and a half, we hope you’ll plan to be here for our tours at 1:30 and 3:00 on Sunday afternoons. If you’re early you can visit our market and some of our animals that are close to the house, and if you’re running a bit late and let us know we’ll wait for you to catch up. We love visitors to our farm and our animals enjoy all the activity, too. 🙂 Continue Reading →

What I Spun at SAFF 2016

You might remember this spinning wheel that I bought at a local junktique shop a few weeks ago.

spinning-wheel

It was missing a very important part, so I got on Facebook and found an Antique Spinning Wheel group and asked where I could get that part made, and was immediately introduced to a business called “Bobbin Boy.” I couldn’t believe it when I found out they are in Asheville, NC, which is just about a 3 hour drive from our farm. Better yet, when I contacted them (Alan & Milissa Dewey), they asked if I was going to the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair. The what???? I’d never heard of this event! I found out it was being held October 28-30…this past weekend, so I talked with Farmer Bob and off we went! Continue Reading →

I’ll be Spinning my Wheel Soon!

***Our farm market will be closed this coming Sunday, October 30th, and will be open again on Sunday, November 6th.***

Our farm market will not be open this coming Sunday, October 30th, because I’ll be attending the Southeast Animal Fibers Fair near Asheville, where I will learn how to use my antique spinning wheel. I’m so excited!

A month or so ago, I bought it a beautiful spinning wheel at an antique store for a song. It’s missing a couple of parts, so I found someone who specializes in hand crafting spinning wheel parts to match the original, and they will be at the SAFF. I look forward to meeting this charming couple that I’ve been corresponding with through email and Facebook! Bobbin Boy is the name of their business, and I’m in such awe of their work ethic and skills!  Even if you have no interest in learning how to spin wool, you’ll enjoy looking at their Facebook pictures of all the things they do.

Here’s my spinning wheel: Continue Reading →
