Yesterday was a busy day on Fox Trot Farm. Even the ducks are sleeping in this morning! (It was the opening day of a quilting/sewing retreat that I facilitate at The Homeplace Bed & Breakfast, so I headed out early and missed all the action.) Our friend and farm helper, Ed, arrived to help Bob around 9:30, and they worked steadily all day. Something special happened at Fox Trot Farm yesterday, and even the ducks are sleeping in this morning!

Can you tell what happened at the farm yesterday? Take a close look at the picture below.

If you guessed that it was shearing day, you’re correct! Ding Ding Ding Ding!!!! Our professional shearer, Al Potter, started about 10:00 a.m. and they finished up at almost 3:30. Farmer Bob said all the girls were good, but the two rams were a different story. Eddie got upset that Al was trying to flip Tex, and he butted Al in the shoulder. It wasn’t a HUGE butt, but enough that Al’s probably feeling it this morning. He’s one tough man, I’ll tell you what!

Here’s a picture from several years ago of Al shearing the rams when they were younger. Now Tex is about 350 pounds, docile, but unmovable, so it’s like lifting dead weight for Al to get him in this position.

We are closed for business today except for those people who have already contacted me to get eggs and honey. You can always call or text me at 803-804-3541 to let me know you’d like to come pick up something. Farmer Bob will be hanging gates this afternoon, and he’ll be able to help you with what you need.

Switching gears, the quilting retreat’s first day was so much fun! Everyone arrived except our new friend from New Orleans, and she’ll arrive today. I’ll take pictures of everyone sewing and all their beautiful projects and put them in a future post. In the meantime, for you folks who appreciate “antiques” and love anything and everything retro, here’s some eye candy:

Our star Goodwill shopper friend, Sheranna, found her for about $20! She’s complete, with all her original attachments, boxes, and manuals. Looks like she was barely used, and her maintenance kit of cute, tiny oil can and lube had never been assembled and used! Wow! What a deal! Sheranna named her “Annie.” She is “Atlas Annie!” Isn’t that great???? (Atlas Annie is a 1957 model, same as I am! haha) Retreats are so much fun! More on this one to come. 🙂

Don’t forget to give me a call or text me (texting is best this week as I’ll have the ringer turned off on my phone most days) and let me know a time when you want to come by for eggs or honey so I can let Farmer Bob know when you expect you. Have a great week!

Cookie is a happy girl and looking forward to your visit!
