It’s going to be a beautiful day and our market is open!

I just love autumn on the farm! Mornings are cool and foggy, but the sun comes out and shines brightly by mid morning. The leaves are beginning to change colors and fall, and that special aroma that belongs to fall is in the air.

It’s going to be another beautiful fall day on the farm and our market is open from 1:00-5:00. Farmer Bob will be giving guided tours at 2:00. Come play in the falling leaves, enjoy our animals, and stock up on lamb, eggs, honey, and other farm goodies! Hours are on Sundays only.

I spent the past week at a quilting retreat with friends, so there’s been no time to prepare baked goods for today. I had a LOT of fun talking and sewing…and there was NO Internet, TV or cell service. Imagine that! It took a while to stop grabbing my phone to check email/messages but, after I stopped thinking about the outside world, it was a wonderful escape. That’s what “retreat” is all about, right?

Here’s where we spent most of our time…sewing and talking, and then sewing and talking some more.

We all took time off our own projects to make these dolls for a children’s hospice service. It was good to do something charitable, but, honestly, it was the saddest thing I’ve done in a long time. We all hope that they are helpful for the children to understand medical procedures. I wanted to give them faces, but we followed the guidelines. In spite of the sadness of the purpose, we did have fun making the dolls. Some of us cut and sewed the bodies, some stuffed them, some cut out the little gowns and passed them along to be serged. “Flying babies!” was the heads up as they were tossed from one end of the table to the other to be stuffed!

Cookie was so excited to see me when I got home! She raced around in circles a hundred miles an hour! Gracie came over to the fence and tilted her head up for me to scratch her cheeks. She just stood there with her eyes closed, enjoying being close to me. Of course, Farmer Bob was happiest of all that I was home safe. It’s great to get away, but wonderful to return home to the farm.

Now it’s back to work for me…soap making, honey bee keeping, animal feeding and doctoring, and all the many wonderful farm and housekeeping duties. And, of course, Market Days on Sunday afternoons! We hope to see you…love your visits!
